Bringing Fun to Branding with the Pulpy Font

I was sitting at my desk, staring at a blank brand board for a new client—a cozy little café that wanted to feel playful yet approachable. The challenge was to create something that stood out without being too over the top. I had just downloaded Pulpy, this cool, unique decorative font, and I knew it might be the spark we needed.

Pulpy is a display font with a fun and vibrant personality. Its design feels like a mix of whimsy and modernity, with soft curves and bold edges that make it visually engaging. It's not your typical serif or sans serif; instead, it leans into its decorative roots while still maintaining a sense of readability when used appropriately.

The first thing I did was test it on a logo draft. I placed it over a simple sketch of a coffee cup and immediately saw the potential. The font added a sense of energy and creativity that matched the café’s vibe perfectly. It wasn’t too loud, but it definitely caught attention—just like the right kind of signage should.

As I moved forward with the project, I started experimenting with how Pulpy could work across different brand elements. On packaging mockups, it looked great as a headline for product names. On social media graphics, it brought a friendly tone to promotional posts. Even on business cards, it felt right—playful enough to stand out, but professional enough to maintain credibility.

One thing I noticed early on was how well Pulpy worked as a display font. It shone brightest in short-form text—like headlines, taglines, and call-to-action buttons. For longer paragraphs, I paired it with a clean sans serif font to ensure readability didn't suffer. This combination helped balance the fun aesthetic with the need for clear communication.

When it came to designing the café’s shop sign, I tested Pulpy on a few variations. It looked amazing in large format, especially when combined with a minimalist background. The font’s unique shapes made the sign feel more inviting and memorable. I even used it on a label sticker for their signature drink, which became one of the most requested items from customers.

For digital use, I found Pulpy worked well on the homepage hero section. It added a touch of character without overwhelming the rest of the content. In Instagram posts, it helped reinforce the brand’s personality, making each post feel more personal and engaging.

One practical tip I learned while working with Pulpy is to always test it in different contexts before committing to a full brand system. I created a few mockups using various weights and styles to see how it would hold up under different conditions. Checking the included alternates and ligatures also helped me fine-tune the look and feel of the final designs.

Font pairing played a big role in the success of this project. I paired Pulpy with a modern sans serif for body text, which gave the brand a balanced and cohesive look. This combination allowed the font to shine in key areas without clashing with the supporting typefaces.

Another thing I considered was commercial font licensing. Since the café would be using the font across multiple platforms—including print and digital—I made sure to choose a license that covered all necessary uses. This step ensured there were no legal hiccups down the line, which is always a good idea when working on client projects.

Throughout the process, I kept in mind that while Pulpy is a decorative font, it still needed to serve a functional purpose. That meant using it strategically—primarily for headlines and accents rather than long blocks of text. This approach helped maintain professionalism while keeping the brand’s playful spirit intact.

In the end, the café loved how the font brought their vision to life. Customers mentioned they could instantly recognize the brand by the typography alone, which was exactly what we were aiming for. Pulpy didn’t just add style—it helped shape the overall brand identity in a meaningful way.

If you're working on a branding project that needs a touch of fun without sacrificing professionalism, Pulpy might be the perfect fit. Whether it's for a small boutique, a skincare brand, or a creative studio, this font can help elevate your designs and leave a lasting impression on your audience.
